I have always heard that we all have a story. But it was not until God placed a burden on my heart to help the youth in my community that I realized my story was what God was going to use to help others.
I never understood why divorce was a part of my childhood. I thought it was not fair that I had to struggle with this insecurity that comes from divorce while my friends were secure because they had parents who stayed together. My parents divorced when I was five and this event haunted me for years because I thought it was my fault. I was broken and insecure. But God was preparing me to understand what children in my own community would be facing. God used my past to see the present problems around me. He wanted me to stretch out my hands to Him for power and stretch out my faith to love those who needed love because they were broken. The very thing that hurt most growing up would be what God would use to help me to see the hurt in others and do something about it. I helped bring love to life by starting a mentor and food program for at-risk students in my community called Mt Vernon Cares. These students needed love and God needed me to share His love.
The security I have now is because of Christ and not in my circumstances or in someone else. My story is that I once was lost in the throws of rejection and heartache, but God reached, rescued and restored me to who I am today. I am a child of God with a Father who is always with me! I pray that all who suffer from a broken family will turn to the Father with all their hearts and lean on Him. He is the same yesterday, today, and always!

I wrote more of my story in my new book, “Second Touch of Jesus” available now on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/dp/1737182505
